Food Forest Initiative

Our on sight Food Forestry System â€‹provides working models by stacking annual and perennial species into strategic patterns that mimic those seen in nature. Our Food Forest Cells, or “guilds,” can be reproduced on small and large scale that are designed to be replicated across our own property and abroad.

Black Soldier Fly Larva Production

Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL): Hermetia illucens, the black soldier fly, is a common and widespread fly of the family Stratiomyidae. The larvae and adults are considered neither pests nor vectors. Instead, black soldier fly larvae play a similar role to that of red-worms as essential decomposers in breaking down organic substrates and returning nutrients to the soil. Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) are an excellent source of sustainable protein for livestock nutrition. The larvae have voracious appetites and can be used for composting household food scraps and agricultural waste products.

We currently use two models of BSFL pods for collection, if you are interested in purchasing one of these, check out our Shop.

Permaculture Pigs

Welcome to LPRC Permaculture Pigs

Discover our commitment to sustainable farming practices. At LPRC, we specialize in selectively breeding three heritage hog species designed for low environmental impact. Nestled in the rich lowland forests of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, our animals thrive on a diet of natural forage, harmonizing with their surroundings.

Through careful rotation of our Low Forest Hogs across our property, we not only rejuvenate our land but also safeguard the delicate balance of our natural habitat.

Biochar Production

Biochar is created at the LPRC using materials collected through our Resource Recovery Program and or our agricultural wood "waste". We use TLUD (Top Lit Updraft) style kilns to convert this "waste" into a stable product that can be used as a soil amendment and other various uses on and off site.

We offer several forms of this product in our Shop.

Historic Home Restoration

The LPRC is located on a beautiful property that has been family land for at least 200 years. Classified as a "Century Farm," we are currently in the initial stages of restoring our family's mid-1850s log cabin to historical accuracy. We hope to showcase this heritage home and preserve the history of a pioneer family of Lewisville, NC. We are fundraising for this project through community donations.
